Episode 10

by Brian on January 4, 2007

We emerge from the Holiday Season, over-stuffed on booze, rich food, and games. This episode, we cover 2006 in review, BattleLore, Spirit of the Century, and some Dogs in the Vineyard play. And Chris repeatedly springs random questions on his co-producer, damnit.

I’d like to mention Interactive Fantasy from Hogshead circa 1995/6 as an example of a quasi-academic journal style publication about roleplaying. It was pretty great too.

We were dispensing the King’s justice in New Gidea as I recall.

So I’ve seen a lot of love towards indie games (no complaints here) and to True20, I’d like some sort of review/analysis/whatever on Savage Worlds. What do you fellas think about, what experience do you guys have with it (if any, etc.)

Thanks Alex

That Dogs scenario is New Gidea, written by Judd Karlman (of the Sons of Kryos). You can find it at http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/index.php?t=12548. I’ve also run it, and it is indeed awesome.

Wow – thanks for the comments folks! Much appreciated!

Alex: I’ve run Savage Worlds a few times (1st edition), and had some good results with it (and some wonkiness). I’ll see if I can’t talk little about it in an upcoming episode.

I’m really excited to hear that you all got some mileage out of New Gidea.

Major thanks to Judd Karlman for creating New Gidea, a town I love running, and to Chris, Chris & Jim for being such excellent players, and of course to Vincent for writing DitV in the first place.
