Episode 39

by Brian on November 19, 2008

We’re back in the studio, chatting with returning guest Paul Tevis.  Topics include Paul’s made-for-gaming house, One Bad Egg, Spirit of the Century meets Wilderness of Mirrors, and more.  No liner notes this time, but we promise to be back with Episode 40 soon enough.

Glad you’re back! Very jealous of the gaming house. I’ve just got a one bedroom apartment to squeeze everyone in.

I’m not sure how I feel about all these hardcore roleplayers getting into the housing market. One long streak of great RPG product releases will cause another big mortgage crisis.

Nice to hear you guys are back after the break, I always enjoy listening to your Pod Casts.

I just wanted to give thanks for the mention of Microlite20. I have recently begun gaming with an old friend of mine who had neither the time or desire to master D20 or D&D4. After your first mention of the system, we ran a few simple dungeon crawls with it. We have found M20 to be an excellent set of rules for quick games with little set-up time. Although M20 probably requires an experienced D20 DM due to all the decisions required of him or her, I do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a fast RPG experience. Combined with the multitude of adventures on RPGNow, I could not be much happier with the results.

Gratefully,

Ditto to the “welcome back after the break” comments. Just wanted to weigh in briefly as a player in Brian’s SotC game to say it was indeed all that… wall-to-wall fun with an exceptional group. While I knew Brian was flexing his improv skills, the adventure he spun out for us was considered, thoughtful, cinematic and engaging. The Sands of Madness experience was particularly evocative and Brian was flat-out trying to destroy us (!) with the Guardian of Osiris. Great, great fun.

Oh, and thanks for the groan at the mention of my name, Haterhan. It warms special parts of me to hear it, parts that will go unnamed out of respect for the three or four persons who may eventually read this.

Welcome back.
The episode was a lot of fun to listen to. I enjoyed the coverage of 4e. I was very hesitant to pick it up but the podcast along with others is pushing me toward getting it.
Thanks for the SOTC game coverage. My group really like that system and playing pulps. It sounds like you had a blast and it inspires me to work up another session.
MicroLite20 – thank you for bringing it to my attention. I have checked out the website and this is something I will investigate further. It looks like we could use it.
I appreciate the coverage of “What We Think About Games”. I had heard that it was excellent. It is on the definite buy list now.
Finally, Paul was an excellent ‘guest’. Congrats to him on the new house and his GAMA role.

I am also a fan of Black Gate, and have met John (the editor) at a local reading. He’s an exceptionally cool guy. After some discussion about podcasts, I sent him links to all my favorites. I will forward him the link to this show with the mention that BG gets some love in it. Thanks for another great cast, guys, and welcome back!
